Summary of the Classroom
The Classroom, in tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom, starts off with describing the conversations between Mitch and Morrie when Mitch goes to visit his old, dying professor for the second time. The conversations include Morrie’s description of what was going on in his life, how he’s “become much more interesting to people” now that he’s dying. Then Mitch, taken aback by his former professor's presence, thinks about what happened to him since college Albom describes Mitch’s realization that he “traded lots of dreams for bigger paychecks.” The conversing between Morrie and Mitch goes on, and when it’s time to eat, Morrie’s pitiful seen at having to attempt to spear a tomato three times before success, makes Mitch astounded at Morrie’s lack of self pity. Finally, Albom describes the end of an embarrassing silence as Morrie says “[y]ou know how I am going to die?...I’m going to suffocate.” and Morrie shows Mitch how he knows in a mini doctor’s test. Albom’s flight will leave soon, so Morrie makes him promise to come and see his old professor again soon. Then Albom has another flashback where he remembers the kind of things that he and his professor would talk about and the books they would discuss, symbolizing their current conversations as Albom visits Morrie more.
