Summary of The First Tuesday, We Talk about the World
In tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom, the eighth chapter is called The First Tuesday. In this chapter, Mitch goes to Visit Morrie, his dying professor, for a second time. The eat lunch that Mitch brought while first talking about the ultimate sign of dependency, soon wiping your bottom. Morrie tells Mitch he think that time will come soon, but he’s “trying to enjoy the process...I get to be a baby one more time.” After that Morrie explains why he bothers keeping up with the news, most of all deaths. “Now that I’m suffering, I feel closer to people who suffer than I ever did before.” Morrie starts crying, and sees that Mitch is looking uncomfortable. “I’m gonna loosen you up. One day, I’m gonna show you it’s okay to cry.” In consequence to Morrie's comment, Mitch realizes that they used to speak like they were now on Tuesdays, Tuesdays was just their day.
Albom zooms us back into another of Mitch’s flashbacks, placed when Mitch was still attending college with Morrie. Mitch and Morrie discuss Mitch’s future, he wants to become a musician. Morrie warns him that this is a tough life and that there are many “sharks” but still supports him.
