How Tuesdays with Morrie resembles The Matrix
Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom is similar to The Matrix in plot and theme. In the Matrix, Morpheus saves Neo, and then teaches him how to manipulate the matrix. In Tuesdays with Morrie, Morrie Schwartz teaches Albom the right ways to live life and deal with culture. Both Morpheus and Morrie are the older, wiser, more educated teachers, and both Neo and Albom are the less educated-on-the-subject, younger students. Also, both of the teachers, Morpheus and Morrie, know that, in the end the are going to die. However, Morrie is not going to die so that a particular person may live, like Morpheus is for Neo, and Morrie really is going to die, and Morpheus doesn't actually die.
In the plot of the Matrix, Neo always knew there was something else, something more in the grand scheme of life. Then he meats Trinity, who leads him to Morheus. Morpheus then teaches Neo about the Matrix, or real life. In the plot of Tuesdays with Morrie, Albom knows his old professor is out there, but he fails to keep in touch with him, similar to how Neo knows there is a greater meaning to life, so he doesn't bother following the law. Later on, when Neo meets Trinity, it is like when Albom sees Morrie on the TV in the Audiovisual, the plot line begins to peak, and the main character begins to take action. When Abom meets Morrie, it is similar to how Neo meets Morpheus.
Both works of literature have relatively the same theme of small them. Tuesdays with Morrie's theme is to live life to it's fullest and not become sucked into today's culture. In the Matrix, one of the smaller themes was, to not believe in the hype of life, for it may just be a lie. Both of the themes are similar.
