Summary of The Audiovisual, Part Two
In The Audiovisual, Part Two, of tuesdays with Morrie, by Mitch Albom, Ted Koppel visits Morrie again to interview him. First, they speak of where they grew up, Ted, England, and Morrie, Bronx. Then they speak of the state of Morrie. Keppel comments on the state of Morrie’s health, saying he looks fine, and Morrie accepts these with disbelief. Koppel asks, if he looks fine, then “how do you know things are going downhill?” and Morrie describes how he just knows. Morrie describes how he feels about losing the motion of his hands, not being able to talk. “This is how I give to people.” Morrie mentions his friend, Maurie Stein, who is going deaf. Koppel imagined Maurie and Morrie one day, both unable to communicate.
Koppel and Morrie then discuss the letters Morrie had received since the last program, one of which was from a school teacher who had organized group meetings for kids who have lost a parent. Morrie says he wishes he had a group like that when he was eight and lost his mother. This leads into the next chapter describing Morrie’s childhood.
