Summary of The Eighth Tuesday, We Talk about Money
The Eighth Tuesday, the eighteenth chapter of tuesdays with Morrie, starts off with Albom and Morrie discussing Money, and that when people obsess over gobbling up more wealth and tangible items, they are putting their “values in the wrong things. And it leads to very disillusioned lives.” Albom then describes the brainwashing going on in our country, repeating something, over and over again. “More is good. More is good.” Morrie describes that, people who are greedy, craving power, are lacking love and tenderness, and are therefore trying to replace that with tangible objects. The conversation then shifts to what you want versus what you need, and that the things that really make you happy are people with whom you can share you time with, such as at an old-folks home. After, Morrie shares one of his many bite sized philosophies, “Devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.”
