Summary of The Fourth Tuesday, We talk about Death
In The Fourth Tuesday, of Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom, Morrie and Mitch talk about being aware of death. Morrie makes the example, which comes from the Buhdist culture, to imagine that there is a little bird on your shoulder every day that asks “Is today the day? Am I ready? Am I doing all I need to do” Am I Being the person I want to be?” They talk about how everyone knows they are going to die, but can’t accept it. They cannot bear to think of death. Morrie says “once you learn how to die, you learn how to live.” He talks about, when you’re dying, you strip away all the unimportant things in life and focus on the bare essentials.
Morrie, Rob(Morrie’s son), Jon(his other son), and a couple of Morrie’s friends are reading letters sent from people around the world in response to Morrie’s appearance on the Nightline. Some are sad, others are irrelevant to Morrie’s teachings, and Morrie answers each one signing them “[t]hank you, Morrie.”
